This three-spread-page magazine design is based on an interview with photographer Hoda Afshar.
Hoda Afshar is a documentary image-making photographer located in Melbourne, Australia. In her work, she employs processes that disrupt traditional image-making practices, play with the presentation of imagery, or merge aspects of conceptual, staged, and documentary photography.
Speak the Wind captured the culture of Iran's inhabitants, spiritual perspectives, and otherworldly landscape. To express the magnificent photographs and the title, the concept of the wind is used in the photographer's name, and the wind's presence is floating throughout the magazine spreads. The orangish-red is used as an accent to emphasize the pattern on the garment and the unique ochre sand from the group of islands in the Strait of Hormuz on the southern coast of Iran. Negative space generously appears throughout the layout to depict the freedom of sacred practices, remarkable nature, and the spirit of the title itself.
